It provided an important opportunity for African community representatives to discuss community safety, racism, hate crime, online abuse, misinformation, youth safety, and the importance of building stronger trust between communities and An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na.During the meeting, SIIF raised the concerns of the Somali community in Ireland, especially around racism, discrimination, online hate, fear of reporting incidents, and the need for better awareness and communication between the community and Garda\u00ed.SIIF also introduced its work supporting Somali families, young people, women, refugees, asylum seekers, new arrivals, and the wider Somali community in Ireland. SIIF explained how it reaches the community through WhatsApp groups, YouTube awareness videos, social media, direct outreach, and community meetings in Somali and simple English.The key message shared by SIIF was that the Somali community wants safety, respect, trust, and partnership. SIIF confirmed its willingness to work with An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na in a positive and lawful way to support awareness, encourage reporting, fight misinformation, and protect vulnerable members of the community.SIIF proposed practical cooperation, including community awareness sessions on hate crime and racism, Somali-language information materials, stronger engagement with Somali youth, a clear contact pathway with Garda Diversity Officers, and positive use of social media to share verified safety messages.SIIF thanks An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, the Garda National Diversity Unit, Glencree Peace Centre, Africa Centre, and all organisers for creating this important space for dialogue and cooperation.This meeting is an important beginning.
