{"id":2162,"date":"2026-07-12T18:42:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T18:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/somalicentre.ie\/main2home\/?p=2162"},"modified":"2026-07-12T19:02:32","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T19:02:32","slug":"national-day-of-commemoration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/somalicentre.ie\/main2home\/national-day-of-commemoration\/","title":{"rendered":"National Day of Commemoration"},"content":{"rendered":"The annual National Day of Commemoration Ceremony has taken place at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin.\r\n\r\nPresident Catherine Connolly laid a wreath in honour of all Irish men and Irish women who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations and other organisations in the service of peace.\r\n\r\nThe ceremony included the raising of the national flag and the observance of a minute’s silence.\r\n\r\nThe military and religious ceremonies were held in the presence of President Connolly, Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin and other members of the Government.\r\n\r\nRelatives of 1916 leaders, next-of-kin of those who died on service with the UN, Northern Ireland representatives and a wide cross-section of the community, including ex-servicemen and ex-servicewomen were also in attendance.\r\n\r\nThe commemoration occurs on the Sunday nearest 11 July, the anniversary of the date in 1921 that a truce was signed ending the Irish War of Independence.\r\n\r\nSimilar ceremonies will take place throughout Ireland.\r\n\r\nSource: RTE News<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\r\n
